My Brother Died on Mother’s Day

A little over a decade ago I turned 21 years old while I was living abroad in Perth, Australia. It was a big deal to celebrate being legal drinking age across the globe and I had made big plans. I wore a cute tight floral dress and the hot Australian air made my hair wavy with just the right amount of frizz.
